Artist's Statement:

Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to San Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531, eventually providing miraculous roses to substantiate his claim to the bishop. A beloved apparition of Mary, she is the patron saint of the Americas. In this depiction, she holds a young family in her hands, lifting them up in prayer.

The text of the prayer within this painting is the 2nd half of the prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose:

"Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose,
[make intercession for the holy Church,
protect the sovereign Pontiff,
help all those who invoke you in their necessities,
and since you are the ever Virgin Mary
and Mother of the true God,]
obtain for us from your most holy Son
the grace of keeping our faith,
of sweet hope in the midst of the bitterness of life
of burning charity, and the precious gift
of final perseverance.
Amen."

This piece is also offered as a set of one dozen 2x3 inch PRAYERCARDS, with the full text of the prayer in hand-lettered calligraphy on the back.

These prints are reproductions of my 9x12 hand-drawn, watercolor illustration. Prints are professionally run by a small, locally owned print shop. One of the many things I appreciate about them is they use sustainably forested paper and environmentally sensitive inks. They work closely with me to ensure the prints have the same feel as the original drawing. Each print is signed in pencil by the artist (me).

This is an unmatted print on bright white, 100lb paper. Prints are 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 or 12x16 with a narrow white border. They look fantastic with a variety of mat colors but will fit unmatted in a standard frame.
